How far each Las Vegas community is from a hospital ER
Every community here is within about 15 minutes of a hospital emergency room. The valley now has two Level I trauma centers.

The short answer
- Every community here is within about 15 minutes of a hospital ER. Queensridge is 6 minutes from Summerlin Hospital. Southern Highlands is 10 from West Henderson Hospital.
- The valley has two Level I trauma centers: UMC, and Sunrise Hospital since April 2026.
- For children, UMC Children’s is Southern Nevada’s only designated pediatric trauma center. Sunrise Children’s, Summerlin Hospital and St. Rose Siena have pediatric ERs.
- In a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Paramedics take you to the hospital that fits the emergency, which is not always the closest one.

Two Level I trauma centers
The State of Nevada designates trauma centers by level, and Level I is the highest. Southern Nevada has two Level I centers and two Level III centers.
- UMC (University Medical Center of Southern Nevada) is a Level I adult trauma center and Southern Nevada’s only designated pediatric trauma center (Level II). It is the primary teaching hospital for UNLV’s Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine and runs Nevada’s only verified burn center.
- Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center was designated the valley’s second Level I trauma center in April 2026.
- St. Rose Dominican’s Siena campus in Henderson is a Level III trauma center. The other is the military medical center at Nellis Air Force Base.
Paramedics take serious injuries to a trauma center even when another ER is closer. That is why the nearest Level I center gets its own column above.
03
If you have children
- UMC Children’s Hospital is Southern Nevada’s only designated pediatric trauma center, with a 24-hour pediatric ER.
- Sunrise Children’s Hospital has a dedicated 24-hour children’s ER with its own entrance.
- Summerlin Hospital treats children in a dedicated unit inside its ER and runs a pediatric ICU.
- St. Rose Siena has a separate children’s emergency room.
Sunrise, UMC, Summerlin and St. Rose Siena each run a Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
04
Freestanding ERs and urgent care
Around the valley you will see freestanding ERs: emergency rooms run by a hospital but built away from its main campus. They are open 24 hours, and patients who need to be admitted are transferred to the hospital. Urgent care is for minor illness and injury.
On the west side, the ER at South Summerlin, a freestanding ER on West Flamingo Road, is about 6 minutes from The Ridges and 9 from Red Rock Country Club.
05
Specialty care worth knowing
Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, downtown on West Bonneville Avenue, treats memory disorders, movement disorders and multiple sclerosis, and runs clinical trials.
UMC is also the primary teaching hospital for UNLV’s Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. A five-year academic affiliation agreement between the two was approved in 2026.
